IN CHARACTERName: Genos
Canon: One Punch Man
Canon Point: Amidst the Hero Hunter arc (current arc in the manga).
Age: 19
History: Link!Personality: Genos’ first most defining moment, and the moment in his life that set the course for how he would live afterwards, was the destruction of his home town and slaughter of his family by the “Mad Cyborg” - a cyborg that had gone violently rogue, theoretically from a faulty implant between its technology and its brain. When most fifteen year olds were concerned about fitting in at school or getting a date with their first crush, every ounce of normalcy in Genos’ life was utterly shattered as he lost everything and swore himself to vengeance. He only let in Dr. Kuseno, who offered to help him and who was the one to make him into a cyborg as well. He was cold, cruel, hateful… he stopped caring about having a normal social life, and pushed everything out that wasn’t his revenge plot or destroying monsters that threatened human life. Even at his cruelest, Genos was always willing to die in order to kill a monster before it could hurt anyone else.
In one such moment, when he was prepared to self destruct in order to destroy a mosquito woman monster, he was saved by Saitama’s unfathomable power and almost immediately he began to fixate on that unbelievable, impossible strength. Though his initial goal was to learn the secrets to it in order to defeat the Mad Cyborg, Genos gradually settled down and learned to live and behave more normally as he eventually moved in with Saitama. Even so, Genos has a relatively distinct amount of social awkwardness - from his tendency to rambling for several minutes at a time about a single topic to his general distrust and foul disrespect of strangers, Genos doesn’t give anybody the time of day if they aren’t Dr. Kuseno or Saitama. Though not properly translated in English, Genos’ language in Japanese is very informal and rude, said with an air of impatience and angry indifference towards other people. He cares nothing for his fans, cares even less about wasting strangers’ time with his own affairs (and tendency to talk at sufferingly detailed length about his day), and takes joy in seeing people that irritate him or speak poorly of his ‘sensei’ get humiliated by being defeated by Saitama. His attitude comes from a lack of respect for others, which is reflected in battle as well - he will often assume an enemy is weaker than they really are, or are defeated without following up and making sure that they are crushed, which often leads to his body being severely damaged due to him dropping his guard. Even when he acknowledges this weakness of his, he still has a hard time correcting for it.
He initially is fairly callous towards Saitama, as well, taking advantage of the man’s desperate need for money to convince the man to let him move in with him. He also takes every joke to comment passively at Saitama’s baldness in very subtle ways, often couching it as an offer to get him a hair transplant with Dr. Kuseno or even just staring at it during certain moments, eliciting a rise out of his teacher. Even though he is very polite to Saitama and apologizes for overstepping boundaries or being pushy, he still did them again and again regardless. And though he initially suspected that Saitama was a wise and intelligent man, he soon started to realize that he wasn’t quite that bright…
he still only rates Saitama’s intelligence as a 4 out of 10.
However, Genos starts showing signs of attachment to Saitama after a time. It seems likely that a combination of Saitama saving his life and listening to his issues (at least to some degree) were enough for Genos to feel indebted to the man, responding with an overdramatic extreme like he always does; cleaning Saitama’s apartment from top to bottom, crying (tears of oil) for Saitama when the man told him about the emptiness he felt towards fighting, and getting overly aggressive and defensive over people bad-mouthing Saitama. The overly defensive behavior is probably another sign of how poorly socialized Genos is, as well as possibly a sign that he has a tendency to be possessive over loved once due to losing so many of them when he was younger. Though Genos started out very stilted and awkward and WAY too over dramatic about every little thing, he gradually mellowed out and began to live rather domestically and calmly with Saitama. As the series progresses, Genos shows more and more acts of genuine kindness towards Saitama. While it appears to be intended to butter his sensei up initially, as time progresses he expresses a heartfelt admiration for Saitama’s heroic strength and heroic acts, and he has sworn himself to always follow Saitama no matter who sides against the man.
Ultimately, Genos is a man that is utterly and entirely devoted to whatever he deems worthy - his initial devotion was revenge and by extension his quest for power from Saitama, but it then became a faithful devotion to the man Saitama himself. And for Genos’ devotions, he will do anything and give up everything.
Abilities/Skills: Cyborg physiology: Genos' body is designed with immense physical prowess and speed in mind, able to deliver immensely powerful punches and kicks and to take hits that would kill a human with ease. He certainly seems to fall apart a lot, but that is less a product of his design and more a product of just how powerful everyone around him is - also because it's funny that he gets torn apart regularly, since he's from a comedy. He presumably is able to manage or shut off signals for damage on his form, as initial blows seem to hurt but never send Genos into shock, nor do missing limbs hinder him in a fight. He is built to be extremely fast, able to keep up with some of the fastest characters in the series (much to their chagrin). He is fueled primarily by a Core, which can be moved elsewhere to enhance his other weaponry.
Incineration Cannons: Genos' arms have ports in the palms that can shoot either extended gouts of flame or extremely explosive fireballs at a target. These arms can also create huge electrical blasts. He can also reduce the output of these blasts to be similar to a breeze, using them to dry dishes.
Boosters in his shoulders allow him to get a burst of speed or to propel him forward for a punch or to meet a foe head-on.
Sensors present in Genos' eye allow him to scan and analyze his environment, limited primarily by Genos' reaction time.Strengths/Weaknesses:Strengths: A mechanical cyborg body - it can be repaired, replaced, upgraded, etc. It's full of all sorts of handy tools, though it primarily has weapons that are high energy output.
Fairly studious and intelligent, certainly better at taking thorough and cohesive notes than problem solving
Equipped to be able to match pitches and tones and identify them perfectly (subsequently makes him a good singer, supposedly)
I'm laughing too much to condense this so I'm just going to c/p from the wiki: "When not in battle, Genos can change into special arms dedicated for house chores. His right hand comes with a built-in vegetable peeler. The palms also contain ports which allow him to blast warm breeze to dry dishes. In an official illustration, a drink bottle opener is built into his right shoulder. In the manga's Q&A special, it was commented that Genos (when equipped with 'housework arms') can become a top-class house keeper."Weaknesses: A mechanical cyborg body - it gets destroyed and requires a very skilled scientist to repair him, someone that understands how to connect mechanical parts in a way that can be controlled by his human brain.
He is obsessive, and his obsessive behavior is currently focused on Saitama... so he will often drop anything if it means following or assisting Saitama.
He has a bad habit of disrespecting people, including his enemies (in which case he often assumes they are weaker than they are and keeps getting caught off guard)
He cannot swim, cannot float, and supposedly weighs roughly 600 lbs.
He talks for SOLID MINUTES AT A TIME if he isn't stopped.Items: Currently equipped with his Housework Arms
Briefcase containing ARMS MODE
A pink apron with a running egg (harr harr) on it
A feather duster
Volumes 1-52 of Genos' notes on Saitama, as well as 3 currently empty notebooks
SAMPLES
Network Sample: [Nearly a month or so has passed before Genos was willing to even address anybody using the network device. Anyone that was working with him in the kitchen might have watched the incident where his hand got caught in the trash compactor and got it... torn off...
Either way, he turns on the communication channel and shows his crushed hand and the stump of a wrist it was torn off of for a moment.]
I require assistance from a professional that is experienced with advanced robotics and neuroscience. I am a cyborg of justice, and my name is Genos. My hand, as pictured here, was destroyed in a kitchen accident as I attempted to remove something valuable from the active trash compactor before it was crushed and ultimately failed. I will need someone capable of repairing or replacing this hand that will be able to properly attach and connect the nerve channels already existent in my arm, and it is ideal if you are capable of engineering weaponry as my hand normally is capable of producing high outputs of energy and fire to destroy my enemies.
To anyone who has no relevance to my request, I suppose I shall remind you all to not stick your hand in the trash compactor. I am certainly made of stronger materials than the average human body, and I am more easily repaired than your flesh hand is. I am also capable of shutting off pain receptors as necessary, which I do not believe is particularly common outside of super-powered biological individuals. The trash compactor is fairly powerful and capable, as you can see, of crushing most metal thinner than seventy millimeters thick...
[Please, feel free to interrupt him, because he will just keep talking...]
